Spring is finally here and it is glorious. Events during May in Warren/Woodlands & surrounding communities have been more than fortunate weatherwise.
West Interlake Trading Company had a Mother’s Day Weekend Tea & Art Show at Warren Memorial Hall and on the same weekend we had our first “Country Market” for this season at the Grain Elevator site. The calibre of the artists and vendors was very high (and luckily the rain held off). We were a little disappointed that more people from the community did not come out to these events but in the end, at least, we did not lose money and the Lions Club is delighted with the number of vendors we were able to attract to the Market. Ed Peltz volunteered to give grain elevator tours and (once the Prairie Dog Central Railway dropped off over 200 people) things were definitly hopping.
We also completed our first online survey of the year and I thought you might be interested in the results.
- 50 people took the survey. (which is very good)
- 95.9% want to see the Grain Elevator in Warren receive the maintenance it needs to remain standing and out of the 50 only two people thought it should be torn down.
- 26.5% thought it should become an interpretive centre and some commented that they would like to have been able to select more than one of the answers. (The question was not worded so that they could indicate that they would like it to receive maintenance, remain standing and also become and interpretive centre.)
- 0% said they did not care
- many people said they would like to volunteer to help but are just too busy, and 2 lovely people volunteered their services (thank you!)
- Mr. George Hamilton of Warren won the jewelry draw (which you can see above).
On May 15th West Interlake Trading Company volunteers sold and cooked pancake & sausage breakfasts for the Fiddle Fest at Meadow Lea Hall. Woodands Rec. was having a Garage/Craft Sale at their Market, Argyle was having a Social, and Palliative Care was having their gala evening. (and those are only the events I know about!)
Our fundraising is ongoing and the next thing coming up is the Time, Talent & Treasure Auction taking place right at the elevator site in Warren, Manitoba, on Friday, June 4th. We are serving a BBQ Steak, Spud & Caesar dinner at 6PM, before the auction starts (tickets only $12) and will have a cash bar. MLA, Ralph Eichler is our auctioneer… so come on out it’s going to be fun. Please phone to reserve your tickets for this important fundraiser dinner 461-4040 or send a message through this website (under contact), or FaceBook or email.
The Annual Warren Community Garage Sale sponsored by the Warren Curling Club takes place on Saturday, May 29th, 2010 starting at 9:00 am. This is a fundraiser for the Curling Club – they do all the advertising, prepare maps, and put signs out. It’s time to get rid of the stuff in the corner of the garage or in the basement and make a couple of bucks too. The town is always packed with those bargain shoppers looking for deals! If you want more information about the garage sale or you want to register for the garage sale, please call Karen at 322-5494 or via email to tristram@mts.net.
